I came across a description of this in Studies in Crap, from the Village Voice.
From the back cover:
‘The brutal but sensitive story of a woman’s struggle to find her lost baby in a crazy Hell that eats babies. Lost in a world of terror! Land of woe! She has only her clown suit to shield her. ‘
“She just wanted to be happy and help others be happy, be their friend, to be a friend of man, to serve man. To serve man using the claw hammer of laughter removing the nails of woe from the coffin of care… April just wanted to be the clown in the party of life. Life! Party! Sure!” (page 145)
It’s 847 pages long! There were supposed to be two sequels, but it seems they were never published.
