First week of classes coming.
It’ll be my first full week of classes tomorrow, and I’m pretty worried. In fact, maybe I shouldn’t be sitting here writing this, but I just wanted to get an update and a little complaining done. I have to prepare eight different one-hour classes per week. Imagine that! I think it’s really too much! I had thought the situation would have been more like in China, where you prepare one class and present it multiple times.

But how many different groups of students are you teaching? That sounds like a lot of work. But you need to consider how many times a week you are seeing your students.
Is it that you have 2 4 credit classes, and you need to prepare for 2 classes who meet 4 times? Or do you really have eight different groups of students for 1 hour. I actually feel this kind of prep is reasonsble. And if it is this way then you are preparing for two classes for 4 hours.
Remember you were lucky with your China schedule…. all the same classes. I did not always have the same classes and was doing 4 different preps for 8 different classes.
Good Luck. I almost quit ECNU this week. Details are in my blog.

Yikes! I will look to see what happened.
I have one group of students that I see four days a week. One hour I teach speaking and listening, and for the second hour I teach a US culture-related course. So eight hours of different material total for one week.
