My correspondence with Pizza Hut (so far).

Remember how I mentioned the newest Pizza Hut slogan, Let’s Yummy!  Well, I wrote them an e-mail about it.  Then on October 8th, I actually got one back!

It said:

亲爱的M F Cappiello:
您好!
您说的let’s yummy是什么问题?是指多了”?请告诉我们具体页面的地址好么?&quot很可能是程序问题造成的错误。
谢谢

Today I sent them this:

您好!

因为我是外国人,我不容易用中文告诉你“Let’s yummy” 有什么问题、可是我试一下。Yummy 是一个形容词。 用let’s 以后,不能用形容词。比如说,我们不能说,“let’s happy,” “let’s red,” “let’s beautiful,” 等等。Let’s 以后你得用动词,或者动词措词。比如说,我们能说,“let’s go,” “let’s eat,” “let’s go to the store,” “let’s eat some food,” 等等。所以, “let’s yummy” 不行。我觉得 “Let’s enjoy!” 或者 “Let’s eat!” 比较好。

Dear Pizza Hut,

Because I am a foreigner, it is not easy for me to explain in Chinese what is wrong with “Let’s yummy.”  I tried it up above, but in case it’s not clear, let me say it in English also.

Yummy is an adjective.  However, the word let’s cannot be followed by an adjective.  For instance, we can’t say “let’s happy,” “let’s red,” “let’s beautiful,” etc.  After let’s we need to use a verb or verb phrase.  For instance, we can say, “let’s go,” “let’s eat,” “let’s go to the store,” “let’s eat some food,” etc.  Therefore, the phrase “let’s yummy” is not proper English.  Instead, it would be better to use something like “Let’s enjoy!” or “Let’s eat!” as your slogan.
