Once they get used to using a scratch box or poll they tend to prefer it to your stuff. Cats nails grow petty quick and be carefull not to cut to close and get her toe. She's started sharpening her claws on stuff occasionally, so I'm going to have to be sneaky and snip them a little with a nail clipper while she's sleeping. I did that with another cat, and it kept him from getting in the habit of scratching stuff. Okay, so far.
