Steamed bun

Recently there was a piece in NYTimes about all the parodies of BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN that are now online.¬† But lately, the biggest parody in China has been “The Bloody Case that Started from a Steamed Bun,” a.k.a. “Murder by Mantou,” a parody of Chen Kai-ge’s THE PROMISE.¬† A lot of Chinese people thought THE PROMISE was bloated and awful, but people have really taken to this short by a guy named Hu Ge, saying it is much more entertaining than the original movie.¬† Now, Chen, who, from the interviews I’ve read with him, seems to be a real jerk, is threatening to sue Hu.¬† Tons of people have rushed to his defence, and several newpapers have claimed they will pay his legal costs if he really is sued.

You can read about the clip here:

The article is in English, and includes links to downloads, and to sites where you can watch the video.¬† For some reason, when I try to link sites, I get a message saying I am offine, but maybe that is because I don’t have enough bandwidth or something.

Here is a link to the story on the threatened lawsuit:
