Weasel!
Wednesday, August 31st, 2005I saw another weasel tonight, this time on campus by the Tian Jia Bing building. About a week ago, I’d never seen one in my life, and now I’ve seen two. WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?!?

According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, a group of looters has beseiged the Children’s Hospital and is trying to break in! The hospital has called the police and National Guard for help, but no one has responded. How could people do something like that?!? It sounds like Night of the Living Dead!
The dateline was Tuesday night, 11:45 pm US time. I think that was about four hours ago. I wonder what’s happened since. Nightmarish!
I was looking at Yahoo’s front page today, and there was a link to page telling how to help hurricane victims. It’s nice that people want to help, but I think the government should pony up and c0ver the costs. I mean, what kind of government does the US have, anyway? They can afford to carry out a war, but they aren’t willing to cover reconstruction costs for victims of natural disasters? They may say funds are limited, but it seems like funds for the war aren’t limited.
There was a program on Hurrican Katrina on Chinese TV last night, and the commentator was talking about people who were unable to evacuate. He was talking about how some people didn’t have cars, and about the poverty particularly in northern Louisiana and Mississippi. That must have been interesting for viewers to hear, because most Chinese people don’t think the US has any poor people.
I had my last day today (because I never go to oral Chinese class, which is tomorrow). I found myself feeling sort of sentimental. The people in my class were really nice, although I didn’t get to know them well, and there were some people I’ve had lunch with several times and will miss, like Ling Ling, from Canada, and Xiao Hui, from Japan. I gave some people name cards today so they can contact me later on, but I didn’t bring enough, unfortunately. I’ve posted some pictures of classmates on Flickr.com with the tag ECNU, but for some reason I have trouble posting them to my blog too.
In other news, I’ve reconciled with the dog. I think not coming around for a while was good. The dog really seemed to miss me and was a lot better when I played with her again. I also saw a weasel in the xiao qu. I talked about it with the guy who owns the dog, and he said weasles were “hen haokan” (very good looking).
I don’t feel like walking the dog tonight. I’m pissed off with it. I feel like ever since it figured out how to get its harness off, it feels like it doesn’t have to respect me and do what I say. That galls me because I take it out for long walks every night. Why should I do that ? It’s not even my dog! It also nips me all the time. The neighbor guy says I should hit it whenever it does that, which I don’t want to do. Actually, I’ve been giving it a smack when it nips me, but it doesn’t seem to have any effect. The neighbor says I should beat it harder. Eh! Why does it have to bite me at all! I come to play with it all the time! Is it just incorrigible or something? I’m very upset with it.
I always knew that Michael Jordan was up to no good.
Here’s a link to a Wikipaedia article on Monkey D. Luffy, the main character of my new favorite cartoon, One Piece.
I came across a clip on TV recently. It was like watching an insane person’s candy-colored dream. All this bizarre stuff happened in what seemed to be an arbitrary, hyper way. It reminds me in some ways of my previous favorite cartoon, Cyborg Kurochan. Actually, after I picked up my first One Piece disc, I realized Monkey is voiced by the same person who did Kurochan. Coincidence? I wonder if the original voice track was on the TV clip I saw.
Today I saw a disturbed old man sitting in the middle of a busy road, having a drink and reading a newspaper. He seemed comfortable, despite the traffic whizzing by him.
I might be hungry, or I might not. Maybe my stomach just feels weird. I hate it when that happens. Does this happen to other people?
Another misread headline. It actually said, “IAEA Tries to Resolve Iran Nuclear Crisis.” I misread things like this once in a while. Once I mistook “Haiti Coup Plotter” for “Harry Potter.”
There’s a tropical storm passing through Shanghai right now, and ever since last night we’ve been getting bucketfulls of rain. The wind is so strong I couldn’t even use my umbrella. I went out for a massage (which was when I found out my umbrella was useless), but I guess I’ll have to spend the rest of the day indoors. I can start my Chinese homework, I guess.
not on the lips anyway.
Actually, this is pretty gross, so be forewarned …
I was playing with the dog at the little store, and the old man (the dad of the guy who runs it) was periodically coughing up huge lumps of goo and spitting them out. A few minutes later, I saw the dog go over and EAT them. AAAAGH!
Another quote from the punk-ass kids.
I went to the expensive Huadong Hospital, where the doctor didn’t speak English (even though that is one of the things they are supposed to be able to do there). He said my foot only hurt because there is some fluid near the break point. He also said it was useless to do a new X-ray. I didn’t believe him, and went to the cheap hospital near my house to get a second opinion. That doctor took an X-ray, and ALSO diagnosed me with fluid near the break point. He said it was no big deal. OK!
For some reason there are all these American teenagers in the netbar saying things like, “I got your ass, bitch.” Most annoying.
